Dr. Martin Yaffe is Chief Scientific Officer at the Centre for Imaging Technology Commercialization. Dr. Yaffe holds a doctorate in Medical Biophysics from the University of Toronto. He is a professor in that department and a Senior Scientist and Tory Family Chair in Cancer Research in the Imaging Research Program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is Co-Director of the OICR Imaging Technology Program. With his group of 20 scientists and graduate students, he conducts research in improving medical imaging as applied to detection, diagnosis and management of breast cancer. He also directs the University of Toronto training program in physics and radiation biology for residents in Medical Imaging and has led the Physics Consulting Group for The Ontario Breast Screening Program since its inception in 1990. His research on digital mammography helped move this new modality into clinical evaluation and widespread use internationally. He has developed and brought into clinical and/or commercial use several devices and software applications for testing performance of medical imaging equipment or for extracting and analyzing quantitative clinical information. He chairs the Committee on Mammographic Image Quality for the International Commission on Radiological Units (ICRU) as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) committee to develop harmonized quality control standards for digital mammography. He has also chaired several committees of the American College of Radiology. Dr. Yaffe has authored over 260 scientific papers. He is a co-author of the book Digital Mammography.
