Overview: 

Required Education:  An undergraduate or MBA in Finance combined with an accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA or CPA).

Required Experience:  7+ years of success as a senior finance leader in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization

The Executive Director of Finance (EDF) reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for leading and managing the overall performance of the finance function for CIMTEC, providing financial leadership to the organization, and ensuring that the appropriate financial and accounting policies, procedures and controls are in place. In addition to traditional controllership, planning, and analysis work, the EDF works closely with client companies to evaluate their financial and strategic performance and the appropriateness of early stage investment through CIMTEC and their associated capital partners. With proven change management and strategic capability, the EDF creates and executes action plans to win and retain business, and to improve profits and cash flow. The EDF leads collaboratively, balancing strategic engagement and “hands-on” problem solving. Strong interpersonal skills are combined with demonstrated drive, commitment, integrity and entrepreneurial acumen. The EDF provides leadership and coordination of financial planning, budget management, objectives and policies which ensure CIMTEC has a sound financial structure. With a “go-getter attitude” and high-energy, they are expected to demonstrate the embodiment of integrity, discipline, dedication, loyalty and all the other attributes that represent the very best in professional management and entrepreneurial leadership.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provides sound, accurate and timely financial information to the CEO and the Board. Provides leadership and works closely with the CEO and the Board in performing short- and long-term financial planning and analysis aimed at identifying risks, opportunities, and options that will result in strategies for attainment of CIMTEC’s mission.

  • Interfaces with the CIMTEC Board and members of various Board committees to ensure financial strategies are implemented and that good governance practices are adhered to and strengthened. Ensures that the appropriate framework and policies for risk management are developed; monitors and reports performance against these to the CEO and the Board of Directors. Responsible for developing and implementing strategies, operational plans and budgets and having them approved by the Board as part of CIMTEC’s annual operating plan.

  • Provides advice and input on financing and structuring of financial relationships with CIMTEC clients, stakeholders and partners, and ensures compliance with agreements.

  • Ensures that the appropriate financial, accounting and administrative policies, procedures and controls are in place to set consistent standards across the organization, while maintaining a high level of service and support to the Centre’s clients.

Education: 

An undergraduate or MBA in Finance combined with an accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA or CPA).

Experience: 

Ready to advance and take the lead, the ideal candidate possesses a track record of 7+ years of success as a senior finance leader in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial organization. Can operate equally well in strategic and tactical modes to deliver consistent results. Possessing strong initiative and an influential self-starter with proven experience as a facilitator and driver of change, the ideal candidate will also be:

Skills & Knowledge: 

  • Able to make compelling arguments with fact based analysis; highly credible with business partners, they are sought out to provide ideas, insight and analysis on complex business challenges.

  • A champion of change at the enterprise level with demonstrated success at leading change. Well-versed about the competitive and global landscape, with an outside-in perspective, accounting for implications of cultural, global and political differences in conducting business, and anticipates changes in the market and takes action, rather than reacts, to influence the marketplace.

  • Experienced with software and analytical tools to produce management reports, forecasts and analysis.

  • Able to collaborate with the CEO, Board, and client companies to drive the direction of the business(es) by determining where the organization(s) needs to go to succeed.

  • Able to clearly understand and manage levers that drive sales and selling expenses; delivering consistently on commitments with high standards of execution.

  • An excellent verbal and written communicator. Able to effectively explain and articulate strategic, financial and business fundamentals to internal and external audiences with varying degrees of financial and business knowledge.

  • An undergraduate or MBA in Finance combined with an accounting designation (CA, CGA, CMA or CPA).

  • Experience working in an ISO certified environment (preferably ISO13485) with medical imaging/devices and fee-for-service contract engineering would be additional assets.
